Tajik leader departs to Moscow to discuss Tajik-Russian relations

DUSHANBE, October 21, 2009,President Emomali Rahmon has departed for Moscow for a state three-day visit.

Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and a number of other high-ranking Tajik state officials are accompanying Rahmon on this visit.

According to presidential press service, during the visit, Emomali Rahmon will hold talks with highest leadership of Russia as well as visit Moscow and St. Petersburg. The visit is expected to result in a number of cooperation agreements.

Some local experts expect Russian military base in Tajikistan and the issue of participation of Russia in completion of construction of the Roghun HPS in Tajikistan to be among major topics of President Rahmon’s discussions with Russian officials.
